Frequently asked questions
What happens in a consultation call?
You and I have a 20-minute introductory phone call. It is confidential and free of charge. I’ll get to know what you’re looking to explore or overcome and gather a brief background of where you’re coming from. The purpose of the call is for both of us to assess if we’d be a good fit to work together. Based on that mutual assessment, I will follow up with a personalized program proposal for you or a referral to a more suitable practitioner.
What happens in a session?
In my sessions, I act as any coach does: I offer you information, feedback, encouragement, and my blend of specialized knowledge to help you achieve your goals. I aim to create a consent-based environment with regular check-ins. We will talk, we may refer to written, audio, or video resources, we will strategize together around exploring your sexuality. We will also practice body-based mindfulness, which may involve breath, movement, and sound. If mutually decided upon, my sessions can also include touch. See FAQ below “What is Somatic Sex Education” for more information on this.
What is Somatic Sex Education or Sexological Bodywork?
My work is rooted in principles of Somatic Sex Education, Sexological Bodywork, Surrogate Partner Therapy, and Sacred Sexuality — all of which work directly with the body. I incorporate aspects of these body-based techniques on a case-by-case basis, depending on the needs of the individual I am working with.
This work may involve clients accessing their bodies themselves through guidance in breathwork, body awareness, sensate focus, and masturbation coaching. It may also include touch-based work such as genital mapping, Betty Martin’s “Bossy Massage”, mindful touch with various massage techniques, and more.
Practitioner and teacher Caffyn Jesse offers a backdrop of what Sexological Bodywork is about.
